Yeomanry

I've often wondered if one of the heads from Woodbine Designs would work on a Great War Miniatures body. So.... here we have a Woodbine head wearing Wolseley Foreign Service helmet on a GWM early WW1 British Cavalry body. I think it works. Painted up as a trooper of Yeomanry, probably in Egypt, 1916... before Yeomanry regiments, lost their swords prior to Allenby's campaign in Sinai and Palestine.

Just for Beccas... WW1 Khaki Recipe

Beccas, the khaki mix on this figure is the product of hours of experiment (I kid you not). WW1 British khaki has a greener tinge to it and is a completely different shade to that worn on WW2 battledress, I have a couple of pieces of original WW1 khaki clothing in my collection and in certain light it looks green and in different light it looks brown. After months of trial and error I've settled on this:
A base coat of Vallejo Model Colour Russian Green. The mid tone is Vallejo Model Colour English Uniform and highlights are Vallejo Model Colour Green Brown. The puttees here are done with Vallejo Model Colour Tan Earth, washed with Peat Brown ink and highlighted with Tan Earth with a little white added for the top highlight. You could do the puttees with the same paint combination as the main uniform, but I prefer just to add a different tone for the sake of visual appearance. Hope that helps!

Revisiting some old friends

A few weeks ago, a regular poster on the Steve Dean Forum posted some Great War Miniatures Late War German Infantry. I realised that it is quite some time since I painted one of these, so the roll was called and this Lance Corporal reported for duty from the depths of the lead mountain. A Great War Miniatures Early WW1 British Cavalry Trumpeter. I'd forgotten just what a pleasure they are to paint.

French 2nd Hussars Part 2

These Perry Plastic Hussars take a fair bit of painting! Another three for the latest project. An Officer, Trumpeter and a Brigadier (Corporal). Oooops... just noticed! Forgot to paint something on the Officer. No prizes if you spot what, just the smug self satisfaction of being eagle eyed. I'm off to correct that little bit and then I'm going to give it a rest for today.
